Where We Came From

Lou Lidsky
Hammer & Nail has a proud family history dating back many decades. The story begins with Bart’s grandfather, Louis, who had a lifelong love of woodworking and pursued his hobby fervently. Working from a shop he built behind his house, Lou turned out expertly crafted cabinets, window seats, built-ins and more for his entire family. His crowning achievement was a hand built Harpsichord for one of Bart’s cousins.

Bob Lidsky
Lou’s son Robert, Bart’s father, started the Hammer & Nail in Pearl River in 1975, turning his father’s hobby into a profitable business. Five years later, Bob opened the Wyckoff showroom.

Bart Lidsky
In 1985, Bart, formerly a stage carpenter for The Metropolitan Opera, joined his father, and helped establish The Hammer & Nail as a resource for high design. Bart’s very first solo design won a National Kitchen & Bath Association award in 1989. He then went on to receive three first place prizes in a row. Bart took ownership of the business in 2001. Today The Hammer & Nail continues to garner awards and accolades from the industry and clients alike. The Lidsky’s lifelong dedication to excellence is seen in every detail. And their reputation for customer care remains unsurpassed.
